Happy 40th Anniversary
1971 - 2011
The July 2011 Annual meeting marked the 40th
anniversary of what we now know as the Long Pond Protective
Association. Even though land rentals and cottages were going up
since 1960, it took until July 1971 for a small group of owners to
gather and form what we know today as the LPPA. Check out the

Water level draw down
Dear Members
The permanent repairs to Long Pond Road due to Hurricane Irene may be delayed. This will especially be noticed by the dam where the culverts are in a very temporary state of repair. Hence lays the issue. FEMA (Federal) recommends one solution and the DES (State) recommends another. While we as a Town wait to see how much each repair will be and which one will actually put into place the winter will surely come and go. The issue at hand is whether a dual culvert system will replace the damage at the dam site area or a rather large, cement open bottom, box type bridge will be put into place. The cement structure would allow for a more natural flow and more water will pass through it. The top would be a graveled surface as is the rest of the road. The cost to the Town for repairs of any sort will be in the 25% range. The larger cement structure would be more likely to prevent a major wash out as we have seen this year.
The water has been drawn down about a foot and a half. This will enable the shoreline to be some what exposed until spring. The pond has been lowered to make it easier to repair the road at the dam area. It should also keep the height of the ice lower and prevent ice damage to structures in the water. The pond will probably be drawn down yearly from now on. The timing will be sometime in early October to early April.

Ed Sauer
